First off, I am Japanese. I come from the land of Wagyu. My passion for food is perhaps a bit stronger than most; I travel the world on business, constantly searching for the finest culinary experiences. Today was the final day of my trip. I found myself regretting the Taco Bell I ate for lunch simply because I lacked time. To properly face this steak, one needs the resolve to eat absolutely nothing from the moment they wake up. Outside, people were rushing past in the freezing February cold. The restaurant sits on a main street corner, easy to find. Stepping into the warmth, I found seats packed tightly together—reminiscent of the dense residential streets of Japan—and every table was bustling with life. I tried to order the Classic Rib, but it was sold out, so I ordered the recommended alternative. Soon after, a mountain of bread and my soda with lime arrived. Observing the room, I noticed the floor was run entirely by seasoned, veteran waiters. My anticipation for the steak began to climb. I hesitated to post a photo of the steak this time. It seems an iPhone is simply insufficient to capture its true essence. The first bite instantly surpassed every steak I have eaten until now—including high-end, marbled Wagyu. It unquestionably enters my lifetime top 10 rankings. The mashed potatoes, too, had the perfect flavor profile, wrapping the meat in a wonderful collaboration. The perfect meal requires three things: maximum hunger, the company of loved ones, and excellent food. Even lacking the first two today, I was astonished. Next time, I will skip "The Mash" at Little Collins in the morning, leave my work behind, and bring my wife and children. I am writing this review envisioning that my next visit will be the best meal of my life. I will not write the word "Oisii or delicious" today. I am saving that word for next.
We had a reservation late evening and had to cancel it last minute, phone hostess was very nice about it and recommended that if our plans were to change we could also walk in to their more relaxed late night eatery off 49th(it’s above the restaurant on 3rd). Well we did end up going later and boy were we glad we did. Initially walking in the maître d’ did recommend we go to the restaurant upstairs, but after a discussion with the back staff, they were obliged to seat us in the main dining area. Tony was very welcoming, hospitable and eager to help us enjoy the evening! Phillip our waiter was fantastic, I couldn’t be any more comfortable eating with my family in such a welcoming and warm environment! My family loved the Caesar salad and bone in rib eye, it was more than enough to share, and the prime rib was out of this world delicious! They even went out of their way to get me a slice of that prime rib because they were initially out of it in the main kitchen, what service! The whipped potatoes and creamed spinach were good accompaniments to the meat. For desert we indulged in a huge slice of carrot cake, delicious! Thanks to the staff for making the night wonderful, it was all greatly appreciated, and we will see you on our next visit to NYC!
love this place & have been before but this time to celebrate my brothers birthday, luis & yip were 10/10 servers, very efficient, personable & kind & again very personable. luis was a great server with such a kind personality & yip went above & beyond getting extra bones for our dogs. both men really were great & ofc the food was great but a good server makes all the difference.
